The Builders Exchange is pleased to announce the Central New York Construction Career Day will be being held on October 5, 2023 from 8:00AM until 1:00PM. We have a new location for this year’s event – The F Shed and surrounding parking lot at the Regional Market. Construction industry employers, and those engaged in the industry are invited to participate!

In the early years of the Construction Career Day, funds were provided through the New York State Dept. of Transportation. Due to the many limitations and requirements to obtain those funds, the Central New York Construction Career Day committee decided to refrain from accepting NYS funding and became a self-funded event, paid for primarily through donations and sponsorships in addition to exhibitor participation. With the rising costs of supplies and location, the Career Day costs approximately $20,000 dollars annually. Click here for the exhibitor registration form.

Therefore, Sponsorships and Vendor participation are crucial to continue providing a quality event for the local high schools and their students.

The event has enjoyed great participation from the local high schools. This year’s event is expected to attract more than 500 high school students from grades 9-12.

The Career Day event relies on vendor participation and sponsorships so that students can gain the information needed to pursue a career in the construction industry. Immigration Law for Employers

This course will provide an overview of what laws an employer must be aware of when hiring immigrants, including what discrimination laws apply to immigrants, what employers must do to comply with the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). What is considered an unfair documentary practice against immigrants and thus a violation of INA. Penalties for knowingly hiring an unauthorized non-citizen, for failing to comply with and retain I-9 documentation.

Diana Plue Senior Associate Attorney with Sheats & Bailey will be providing information on how these laws can impact employers. Diana is an experienced attorney who practices in the areas of Construction Law, Labor and Employment Law.

Course is Free to SBE Member Firms only.

Date: October 23 - 24, 2023

Time: 8am to 1:30 pm both days

Instructor: Lisa Brownson, CSP, Safety Source Consultants, Ltd.

This class will be held at the Syracuse Builders Exchange located at 6563 Ridings Rd, Syracuse, NY. We have several safety guidelines in place - please be sure to review them. Due to demand, only 4 people per company.

Please Be Advised – There is a Processing Fee for each Student’s Completion Card. This Non-Refundable Fee Must Be Received Or The Completion Card Will Not Be Released To The Student. Please note Effective 10/1/2023 OSHA has increased the cost of the completion cards to $15.00. Payment of $15.00 per student Must Be Received By The First Day Of Class. If Paying By Check – Please Make Payable To: Safety Source Consultants. Please Be Aware OSHA Regulations Prohibit The Instructor From Distributing Completion Cards To Anyone Other Than The Student Present At The Class. Cards Will Not Be Distributed To Employers. If A Copy Is Required, Please Have Your Employee Provide One.

Students must attend both days in order to receive their completion card

SBE Safety Guidelines:

Attendees of any class must be pre-registered. Anyone not on the pre-registration list will not be admitted. Do not send a replacement unless you notify SBE in advance.
Entrance to the building as well as exiting, will be through the rear doors ONLY. This entrance is located at the rear parking lot on the southern end of the building. Do not enter or exit through the main front entrance or through our plan room entrance.
Hand sanitizer will be available in the classroom.
Please bring your own writing instruments.

This seminar will help prepare and empower firms and individuals to react to a critical incident, such as an active shooter. This training raises awareness and provides valuable skills needed to respond to critical incidents before law enforcement or other first responders arrive.

The seminar will examine methods to slow down an attack, speed up police response to the attacker, notify everyone quickly and prevention methods.

Instructors will include a Town of DeWitt Detective, Armoured One and Chimera Integrations
