Construction Company Growth Accelerator Program

Thursday from 3:00 pm – 5:15 pm

Starting February 9through March 2, 2023

This 4 session program specifically designed for small companies, including Minority and Women Owned Businesses, working to expand their annual income levels and compete in the upstate NY commercial construction industry. Each session will focus on specific topics that will give you the skills and knowledge to grow your construction company business. Our speakers will present informative and educational material that will give your firm valuable insight and perspective on how to successfully manage a construction business. There is No Charge to attend this Accelerator Program.

Session 4 is dedicated to governmental agencies and local community organizations that help and support entrepreneurs grow their businesses.

Sessions will take place on Thursday from 3:00 – 5:15 pm beginning February 9,2023. Upon attending All 4 sessions, attendees will receive a Certificate of Completion.

OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Course

Date: March 6 and 7, 2023

Time: 8:00 am to 1:30 pm both days

Free for SBE Member firms only.

Instructor: Lisa Brownson, CSP, Safety Source Consultants, Ltd.

This class will be held at the Syracuse Builders Exchange located at 6563 Ridings Rd, Syracuse, NY. We have several safety guidelines in place - please be sure to review them. Due to demand, only 4 people per company.

Please Be Advised – There is a Processing Fee for each Student’s Completion Card. This Non-Refundable Fee Must Be Received Or The Completion Card Will Not Be Released To The Student. Payment of $10.00 per student Must Be Received By The First Day Of Class. If Paying By Check – Please Make Payable To: Safety Source Consultants. Please Be Aware OSHA Regulations Prohibit The Instructor From Distributing Completion Cards To Anyone Other Than The Student Present At The Class. Cards Will Not Be Distributed To Employers. If A Copy Is Required, Please Have Your Employee Provide One.

Attendees of any class must be pre-registered. Anyone not on the pre-registration list will not be admitted. Do not send a replacement unless you notify SBE in advance.
Entrance to the building as well as exiting, will be through the rear doors ONLY. This entrance is located at the rear parking lot on the southern end of the building. Do not enter or exit through the main front entrance or through our plan room entrance.
Hand sanitizer will be available in the classroom.

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach Course

Class update! Due to inclement weather, the class on Wednesday, 3/15 has been moved TO Thursday, 3/16 and Monday, 3/20 will be Day 4.

March 9 - 10 and March 15 - 16, 2023, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm all four dates. *Registrants must attend all 4 sessions in order to receive their certification card. This is an in-person class at the Syracuse Builders Exchange (no virtual attendance) - 6563 Ridings Rd, Syracuse, NY 13206

The OSHA 30-hour construction outreach course is required by Corning Glass, Anhueser-Busch, Cornell University, Turner Construction, Slattery Skanska and others for the lead foremen and superintendents. Subjects covered will include OSHA, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Scaffolding, Respiratory Protection, and much more. OSHA has made several changes to the 10 and 30 hour courses employers and employees should be aware of.

*PLEASE BE ADVISED – OSHA HAS IMPLEMENTED A $10.00 PROCESSING FEE FOR EACH STUDENT’S CERTIFICATION CARD. THIS NON-REFUNDABLE FEE MUST BE RECEIVED OR THE CERTIFICATION CARD WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO THE STUDENT AT THE CLASS. STUDENTS MUST PURCHASE A COPY OF THE CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS AT A COST OF $50.00 (non-refundable) FROM THE INSTRUCTOR. PAYMENT IS DUE TWO-WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START DATE OF THE COURSE. IF PAYMENT HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED, THE INDIVIDUAL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE. ANY CANCELLATIONS MADE AFTER THE MATERIALS HAVE BEEN ORDERED WILL STILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT.

Basic Blueprint Reading Course

Registration for this course will close Wednesday, March 8, 2023!

Thursday evenings from 4pm-6pm beginning March 23, 2023. This class will be held in person at the Syracuse Builders Exchange as well as virtually via Zoom. Virtual attendees must attend separately - no screen sharing. All attendees must have the Zoom app downloaded and must sign in with an individual email address.

This course will give attendees basic skills necessary to understand construction documents, and familiarize them with what to expect when reviewing the drawings. This includes familiarization with not only the Architectural scope, but site / civil & all mechanical trades as well. The importance of Project specifications and other related items that are part of a complete set of Contract documents will also be focused on. Participation is encouraged, and having interactive discussion will be an important piece of the course.

James Paolini, AIA

Mr. Paolini has over three decades of experience with various types of site and building design, project management, facility condition assessments, peer reviews for both public and private projects, as well as construction administration. His responsibilities consist of all phases of Architectural design from project viability / pre-design through closeout and commissioning.

Market segments include Federal GSA and VA (both VISN & NCA), government contract work including ID / IQ contract fulfilment, along with complete design services for residential, offices, retail, vehicle maintenance and industrial & aviation facilities.

James has held various positions in the American Institute of Architects Central New York chapter including President, Secretary and Director of Advocacy. He taught Architectural Visual Communication at SUNY Morrisville and been an invited guest juror at Syracuse University for various undergraduate and graduate level Thesis critiques.
