OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Course

Date: September 11 -12, 2023

Time: 8am to 1:30 pm both days

Instructor: Lisa Brownson, CSP, Safety Source Consultants, Ltd.

This class will be held at the Syracuse Builders Exchange located at 6563 Ridings Rd, Syracuse, NY. We have several safety guidelines in place - please be sure to review them. Due to demand, only 4 people per company.

Please Be Advised – There is a Processing Fee for each Student’s Completion Card. This Non-Refundable Fee Must Be Received Or The Completion Card Will Not Be Released To The Student. Payment of $10.00 per student Must Be Received By The First Day Of Class. If Paying By Check – Please Make Payable To: Safety Source Consultants. Please Be Aware OSHA Regulations Prohibit The Instructor From Distributing Completion Cards To Anyone Other Than The Student Present At The Class. Cards Will Not Be Distributed To Employers. If A Copy Is Required, Please Have Your Employee Provide One.

Students must attend both days in order to receive their completion card

SBE Safety Guidelines:

Attendees of any class must be pre-registered. Anyone not on the pre-registration list will not be admitted. Do not send a replacement unless you notify SBE in advance.
Entrance to the building as well as exiting, will be through the rear doors ONLY. This entrance is located at the rear parking lot on the southern end of the building. Do not enter or exit through the main front entrance or through our plan room entrance.
Hand sanitizer will be available in the classroom.

Course Description

This course covers the OSHA Fall Protection Standard for construction and an overview of fall protection methods. Course topics include principles of fall protection, components and limitations of fall arrest systems, and OSHA Standards and policies regarding fall protection. Students will participate in workshops demonstrating the inspection and usage of fall protection equipment, residential construction fall protection, training requirements, and developing a fall protection program. Upon course completion students will have the ability to assess compliance with the OSHA Fall Protection Standard, evaluate installed passive systems and fall arrest systems, and develop and implement fall protection plans.

Cost $795

All participants must bring a current copy of the OSHA regulations, 29 CFR 1926, to the course.

2023 Clambake Update

This year’s “Bake” will be held Wednesday, September 13^th from 3 PM – 7 PM at The Spinning Wheel in North Syracuse. Tickets will be $70.

The menu will include:

Steamed and Raw Little Neck Clams
Fried Clams
New England Clam Chowder
Hamburgers and Hot Dogs
Gianelli Italian Sausage
Salt Potatoes
Corn on the Cob
Salads
Desserts
Draught Beer and Soda

Although the event will be limited to 1,500 people, members will have an opportunity to purchase 2 tickets per company while supplies last.

Tickets will go “on sale” beginning Monday, August 7^th at 8:00 AM. Each member will be allowed to purchase 2 tickets, or until such time the event is sold-out. If the event is not sold-out by the end of business on Friday, August 11^th, members may purchase 2 additional tickets beginning Monday, August 14^th at 8:00 AM.

Tickets may be purchased in person at the SBE office on-line at www.syrabex.com. All tickets sold will be on a “first come first serve” basis.

This event will sell out quickly. It is recommended member firms purchase tickets as soon as possible.

Syracuse Builders Exchange is proud to announce that it will be providing classroom space for the Rochester Institute of Technology, an Authorized OSHA Training Institute Education Center®, to deliver courses allowing participants to become OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainers or to maintain their credentials. It is likely that more of Syracuse Builders Exchange (SBE) members’ employees will need to complete the 10- and 30-hour OSHA outreach courses as large projects begin in the area.

Course Description

This course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour construction safety and health Outreach Training Program to their employees and other interested groups. Using OSHA Construction Standards as a guide, special emphasis is placed on those topics required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as those which are most hazardous. Students are briefed on effective instructional approaches and use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the OSHA Outreach Training Program, to conduct both 10- and 30- hour Construction Outreach classes, and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion. Students who wish to participate as authorized Outreach trainers in the OSHA Outreach Program must prepare a presentation on an assigned OSHA Construction Outreach Training Program topic individually or as part of a group and successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course.

Prerequisites: Students must successfully complete the OSHA # 510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction and have five (5) years of safety and health work experience in the construction industry. A degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation, in the applicable training area, may be substituted for two (2) years of work-related experience. Students should obtain guidance on whether they meet this requirement from the OSHA Training Institute Education Center where they intend to receive the training. Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program trainers are required to attend OSHA #502 Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers at least once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status.

As a student in this course, you will be required to pass a knowledge base test and a performance test to receive your course completion certificate and authorized outreach trainer card. If you do not pass both tests, you will receive a letter of attendance only. Please note that a refund will not be issued if you do not pass the tests.

The third annual Syracuse Builders Exchange clay sport shooting event will be held at Vernon National Shooting Preserve on Friday, September 29, 2023. Lunch will be served at 12 Noon followed by an afternoon of sport shooting throughout Vernon National’s beautiful property. Registration begins August 18^th.
