OSHA 30-Hour Construction Outreach Course

Date: March 4, 5, 13, 14, 2024

Time: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm all 4 days

March 4 & 5 and 13 & 14, 2024 Registrants must attend all 4 sessions in order to receive their certification card. This is an in-person class at the Syracuse Builders Exchange (no virtual attendance) – 6563 Ridings Road, Syracuse, NY 13206.

The OSHA 30-hour construction outreach course is required by Corning Glass, Anhueser-Busch, Cornell University, Turner Construction, Slattery Skanska and others for lead foremen and superintendents. Subjects covered will include OSHA, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Scaffolding, Respiratory Protection, and much more.

PLEASE BE ADVISED – OSHA requires that cards be sent to the students, if a copy is required, please see the employee for a copy of their completion card. The cost of the course will be $100 per student for SBE Member Firms and $200 for Non-Members. Payment must be received by the first day of class and is non-refundable. If paying By Check – Please Make Payable To: Syracuse Builders Exchange and mail to 6563 Ridings Road, Syracuse, NY 13206. Course fees are non-refundable.

Students must attend all 4 days in order to receive their completion card.

Attendees of any class must be pre-registered. Please let us know if your employees cannot attend so we can free up their spot. If another employee will replace an employee registered for the class, no problem, please let us know.

This class will be held at the Syracuse Builders Exchange located at 6563 Ridings Rd, Syracuse, NY. We have safety guidelines in place - please be sure to review them. Due to demand, only 4 people per company, unless there are available seats.

Be prepared to act when emergencies arise. When you understand first aid, you’ll gain the ability to help those in need. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can help save a life if a person’s breathing or heart stops. When a sudden cardiac arrest event happens, minutes matter. In this course you will learn how to treat and recognize heart attacks, strokes, diabetic emergencies and more.

This course will also speak about first aid for severe bleeding. Serious injury can lead to life-threatening blood loss within minutes, be prepared to provide lifesaving care when the unexpected happens.

This course will be an in-person only session, no virtual attendance. Completion cards are distributed at the close of class. The course will be held at Syracuse Builders Exchange, 6563 Ridings Road, Syracuse, NY 13206. Attendees must be pre-registered to attend.

The Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule initial training is an 8-hour class that explains how to comply with EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule. RRP certification is required for anyone who may be doing any renovation, repair, painting, or remodeling for compensation in a pre-1978 residential facilities (i.e. Target Housing) or child-occupied facilities. Renovation firms covered under this law must also be certified on any project taking place in target housing and/or child-occupied facilities.

The EPA requires that anyone engaging in the above activities has to receive training by an EPA accredited training provider. Topics covered in the class include background information on lead-based paint (LBP), applicable regulations, lead safe work practices, containment requirements, cleaning and cleaning verification, recordkeeping, and training of non-certified workers. The class also includes specific hand-on training exercises to ensure student proficiency in testing for lead in paint, minimizing the creation of dust and lead-based paint hazards, interior and exterior containment and cleanup methods, cleaning verification and proper recordkeeping.

Class begins promptly at 8:00am and concludes by 5:00pm (includes 1 hour lunch break). Upon completing the class and passing a 25-question exam, students receive an RRP Certificate. The certificate is valid for 5 years.

The cost is $200 per person SBE Members and Non-Members. Checks should be made payable to Syracuse Builders Exchange. Credit cards are accepted (fees apply). Course fees are non-refundable.

The fee includes a student reference manual, course handouts, and the EPA Renovator certificate. The course issued certificate serves as the participants Renovator certification and no additional submission to the EPA is required by the participant.

Dan Hoosock areas of expertise include lead-based paint (LBP), asbestos, mold, environmental site assessments, environmental remediation, and indoor air quality investigations. Mr. Hoosock maintains certification as an EPA LBP Risk Assessor, NYSDOL certified Asbestos Inspector and Project Designer.

This course will be held in person at the Syracuse Builders Exchange training room - 6563 Ridings Rd, Syracuse, NY 13206.

Course Description

This course covers the role and responsibility of the employer to develop and implement a hazardous energy control program, or lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), for the protection of workers while performing servicing and maintenance activities on machinery and equipment. Course topics include types of hazardous energy, detecting hazardous conditions, implementing control measures as they relate to the control of hazardous energy, developing and implementing energy control programs including written isolation procedures, training of authorized and affected employees, and periodic inspection of energy control procedures using the OSHA Control of Hazardous Energy Standard. Upon course completion the student will have the ability to explain the importance of hazardous energy control programs, procedures, training, audits and methods of controlling hazardous energy.

Course Description

This course covers the safety and health hazards associated with permit-required confined space entry. Course topics include recognition of confined space hazards, identification of permit and non-permit required confined spaces, use of instrumentation to evaluate atmospheric hazards, ventilation techniques, development and implementation of a confined space program, proper signage, and training requirements. This course features workshops on permit entry classification, instrumentation and program development. Upon course completion students will have the ability to identify permit and non-permit required confined spaces, reference the OSHA Permit-Required Confined Spaces Standard, conduct atmospheric testing, and implement a permit-required confined space program.

Minimum student contact hours: 20

All participants must bring a current copy of the OSHA regulations, 29 CFR 1910, to the course.
