OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry

Course Description

This course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour construction safety and health Outreach Training Program to their employees and other interested groups. Using OSHA Construction Standards as a guide, special emphasis is placed on those topics required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as those which are most hazardous. Students are briefed on effective instructional approaches and use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the OSHA Outreach Training Program, to conduct both 10- and 30- hour Construction Outreach classes, and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion. Students who wish to participate as authorized Outreach trainers in the OSHA Outreach Program must prepare a presentation on an assigned OSHA Construction Outreach Training Program topic individually or as part of a group and successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course.

Minimum student contact hours: 26

Prerequisites: Students must successfully complete the OSHA # 510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction and have five (5) years of safety and health work experience in the construction industry. A degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation, in the applicable training area, may be substituted for two (2) years of work-related experience. Students should obtain guidance on whether they meet this requirement from the OSHA Training Institute Education Center where they intend to receive the training. Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program trainers are required to attend OSHA #502 Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers at least once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status.

Complete the Prerequisite Verification Form.

Note: Students in Course 500 who wish to participate as authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program must prepare a presentation on an assigned OSHA Construction Outreach topic, pass a performance exam and a knowledge-based exam. Students are required to bring picture ID as proof of identity and are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop.

As a student in this course, you will be required to pass a knowledge base test and a performance test to receive your course completion certificate and authorized outreach trainer card. If you do not pass both tests, you will receive a letter of attendance only. Please note that a refund will not be issued if you do not pass the tests.

All participants must bring a current copy of the OSHA construction regulations, 29 CFR 1926, to the course.

Syracuse Builders Exchange (SBE) is proud to announce the Association will again be hosting the Building Information Modeling (BIM) Sessions to SBE membership. The 6 sessions will educate construction industry employers and employees on the benefits of using BIM, and how to interact with BIM requirements of construction managers, general contractors or project owners.

SBE has partnered with Autodesk and is an Authorized Autodesk Training Center (ATC). SBE is the only construction industry Association in the State of New York to have such a designation.

SBE will offer a series of 6 BIM sessions. The sessions will be held in the SBE classroom and will include a computer for each student, with pre-loaded software and other materials needed for the classes. The sessions will be on Thursday evenings, for 6 weeks, May 21^st – June 25^th

Session 2 / May 28 / 4:00-6:00pm / Introduction to Revit (part 1)

Session 3 / June 4 / 4:00-6:00pm / Introduction to Revit (part 2)

Session 5 / June 18 / 4:00-6:00pm / Introduction to Navisworks

Session 6 / June 25 / 4:00-6:00pm / Clash Detection in Navisworks

SBE Member pricing: $100 per session/per participant or $500 per participant for all 6 sessions.

Non-Member pricing: $200 per session/per participant or $1,000 per participant for all 6 sessions.

Payments cannot be submitted at the time of registration. An invoice will be emailed to you separately, which will include a link for payment.

Participants can select whichever session they would like to attend or attend all 6 sessions at a discounted rate.

Checks should be made payable to Syracuse Builders Exchange and mailed to 6563 Ridings Road, Syracuse, NY 13206. Credit card payments (fee’s apply) are accepted. Payments will need to be received by May 7^th. Course fees are non-refundable. Space is limited for these sessions, register early to secure a seat.

Eric Wing will be the instructor for these sessions. Eric is an expert in the BIM arena and is currently the Director of BIM Services at C&S Companies and a professor at Syracuse University’s School of Engineering.
