The Syracuse Builders Exchange will be hosting a National Safety Council Flagger course. This course will provide an understanding of the responsibilities and limitations of flaggers in protecting road workers, while controlling the flow of traffic. This course will be using the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for proper work zone set up. This course will cover how a properly trained flagger will perform safe work practices with:

Flagging Equipment
Flagger Appearance
Advanced Warning Signs
One-Direction Control
Emergency Flagging
The Law around flagging depends on the specific task being performed

There will be classroom work and outside trial exercises. Upon completion you will receive a completion certificate.

Scott Hopkins has several years experience as a NYS Flagger Trainer, OSHA Certified Outreach trainer for Construction and General Industry.

The cost of this course will be $100 for SBE Member Firms and $125 for Non-Members. Payments cannot be submitted at the time of registration. An invoice will be emailed to you separately, which will include a link for payment.

Course Description

This course covers OSHA Standards, policies, and procedures in the construction industry. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA construction standards, construction safety and health principles, and special emphasis on those areas in construction which are most hazardous. Upon course completion students will have the ability to define construction terms found in the OSHA Construction Standards, identify hazards which occur in the construction industry, locate and determine appropriate OSHA Construction Standards, policies, and procedures, and describe the use of the OSHA Construction Standards and regulations to supplement an ongoing safety and health program.

Minimum student contact hours: 26

Prerequisites: None

As a student in this course, you will be required to pass a knowledge base test to receive your course completion certificate. If you do not pass the test, you will receive a letter of attendance only. Please note that a refund will not be issued if you do not pass the test.

This class will be held at the Community Bank, conference room at 160 Brooks Road, Ste 3, Rome, NY 13441. There will be a 15-minute break, but No lunch break, so class can wrap up early.

The OSHA 10-hour Construction Industry Outreach course helps participants recognize and identify solutions to common safety and health hazards on the job. There is a New York State law requiring most workers on publicly funded construction sites to have the OSHA wallet card proving they have completed the OSHA 10-hour for Construction training course. Many General Contractors and Construction Management firms also require that subcontractors' employees have the 10-hour. Upon completion of the OSHA 10-hour for Construction, you will receive a course completion card that does not expire.

Please Be Advised – OSHA requires that cards be sent to the students, if a copy is required, please see the employee for a copy of their completion card. The cost of the course will be $30 per student SBE Member Firms and $50 per student Non-Members. Payments cannot be submitted at the time of registration. OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry

Course Description

This course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour construction safety and health Outreach Training Program to their employees and other interested groups. Using OSHA Construction Standards as a guide, special emphasis is placed on those topics required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as those which are most hazardous. Students are briefed on effective instructional approaches and use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the OSHA Outreach Training Program, to conduct both 10- and 30- hour Construction Outreach classes, and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion. Students who wish to participate as authorized Outreach trainers in the OSHA Outreach Program must prepare a presentation on an assigned OSHA Construction Outreach Training Program topic individually or as part of a group and successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course.

Minimum student contact hours: 26

Prerequisites: Students must successfully complete the OSHA # 510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction and have five (5) years of safety and health work experience in the construction industry. A degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation, in the applicable training area, may be substituted for two (2) years of work-related experience. Students should obtain guidance on whether they meet this requirement from the OSHA Training Institute Education Center where they intend to receive the training. Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program trainers are required to attend OSHA #502 Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers at least once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status.

Complete the Prerequisite Verification Form.

Note: Students in Course 500 who wish to participate as authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program must prepare a presentation on an assigned OSHA Construction Outreach topic, pass a performance exam and a knowledge-based exam. Students are required to bring picture ID as proof of identity and are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop.

As a student in this course, you will be required to pass a knowledge base test and a performance test to receive your course completion certificate and authorized outreach trainer card. Syracuse Builders Exchange (SBE) is proud to announce the Association will again be hosting the Building Information Modeling (BIM) Sessions to SBE membership. The 6 sessions will educate construction industry employers and employees on the benefits of using BIM, and how to interact with BIM requirements of construction managers, general contractors or project owners.

SBE has partnered with Autodesk and is an Authorized Autodesk Training Center (ATC). SBE is the only construction industry Association in the State of New York to have such a designation.

SBE will offer a series of 6 BIM sessions. The sessions will be held in the SBE classroom and will include a computer for each student, with pre-loaded software and other materials needed for the classes. The sessions will be on Thursday evenings, for 6 weeks, May 21^st – June 25^th

Course Description

This course is designed for Outreach Training Program trainers who have completed the 500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry and are authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program. The course provides an update on OSHA Construction Standards, policies, and regulations. Upon course completion students will have the ability to demonstrate continued professional development in their field by applying effective adult learning principles and interactive training techniques to clearly identify, define, and explain construction industry hazards and acceptable corrective measures as they continue to teach the 10- and 30-hour Construction Outreach Training Program classes.

Minimum student contact hours: 18

Prerequisites: OSHA #500 Trainers Course in OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry. Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainers are required to attend this course once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status. Prior to registration, students must provide a copy of their current Outreach Training Program trainer card or an official transcript showing successful completion of the OSHA #500 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction from their respective OSHA Training Institute Education Center, for verification of trainer status.

All participants are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop and a current copy of the OSHA construction regulations, 29 CFR 1926, to the course.
